The Soviet typical cinema 'Angara' in Nagorny District of Moscow will become an additional neighbourhood centre in walking distance within the reconstruction program for 39 city cinemas. As the Chief Architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov, has told, the building area will be increased in four times.
After the reconstruction, currently operational cinema (Chongrskiy bulvar, 7) will fully change its functional purpose. As Sergey Kuznetsov has told, neighbourhood centre which includes the area for public events and exhibitions, as well as multi-hall cinema will be created in it. The ground and first floors will be occupied by markets and kiosks which offer the wide range of regularly demanded commodities and services, coffee bar and food-court. On two underground levels, the parking for 57 places and supermarket will be located. The project is designed for the residents living in immediate neighbourhood of the facility, in 15 minutes walking distance, therefore, the planned number of parking places is small.
"As Sergey Sobyaning has already said, if the small project is multiplied, it becomes a complex megaproject. The program for reformating of district cinemas is one of such projects which is very important for the development of internal infrastructure of the districts, — Kuznetsov has said. — Currently inoperational 'Angara' cinema will be become one of these public centres, which are aimed at creating a friendly and comfortable environment in residential districts".
After the reconstruction, the building area will be enlarged from 2 900 sq. m to 12 500 sq. m. According to Kuznetsov, the two-storey glass-paned lobby faced to park of Vishnevskiy square with a pond will be constructed. Behind it three storey atrium with translucent light will be arranged.
New front elevations will be constructed using ceramic panels, and cinema spaces prominent on the roof and stairway enclosure will be faced with aluminium panels. The front elevations will be equipped with evening illumination.
The project was designed by architectural bureau 'Form' based on the concept developed jointly with Britain architect Amanda Levete (Amanda Levete Architects), awarded the prestigious Award of the Royal Institute of British Architects, as well as experts in urban design - Gross.max.
